The Assumption of the Virgin Mary (August 15) is one of the major Greek Orthodox festivals. Food & Music: 

Grand feasts await, featuring traditional Cretan specialties, wine, and live music played on traditional instruments such as the lyra and laouto. Celebrations usually continue into the early hours of the morning.
